چکیده

Various detergents can be used to dissolve phospholipids, resulting in very narrow 31PNMR resonances. The resonances are well resolved, allowing identification and quantitative analysis of phospholipids in a mixture. The chemical shift depends strongly on pH, reflecting changes in the state of ionization of the phospholipid headgroup moieties. Samples of phospholipids dissolved in aqueous detergents are conveniently prepared and give narrower 31P resonances than do phospholipids dissolved in organic solvents.

Studies on Chemo-enzymatic Synthesis of Novel Phospholipids and their Biological Activity

Chapter I: Introduction to Phospholipids Fatty acid and their derivatives and substances related biosynthetically or functionally to this compounds, that are soluble in organic solvents such as chloroform, ether, benzene, acetone and insoluble in water are commonly known as lipids. Most of them form molecules such as waxes, triglycerides, phospholipids, etc, whereas other substances such as fat...

-acyl-ethanolamine phospholipids in rat brains during post-decapitative ischemia: a 31 P NMR study

Phosphorus-31 nuclear magnetic resonance ( 31 P NMR) spectroscopy has been used to study accumulation of N -acyl-ethanolamine phospholipids in rat brains during post-decapitative ischemia. Lipids were extracted from rat brain homogenates and the extracts were thoroughly washed with aq. potassium ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA). The lower organic phases were isolated and evaporated to dry...

31P NMR of phospholipid glycerol phosphodiester residues.

Saponification of extracted tissue phospholipids yields a set of isolated glycerol 3-phosphoryl phospholipid polar headgroups from which semi-quantitative 31P NMR spectra can be obtained. The resonance signals from these molecules, which frequently have been reported as uncharacterized phosphate signals observed in perchloric acid extracts of tissue, can be used as an aid in the characterizatio...

Interaction of two bile acids, a cytotoxic and a cytoprotective, with biomembrane models

Bile acids (BA) are naturally-occurring detergents that solubilize dietary lipids in the intestinal tract. However, they are involved in the triggering of diseases like colon cancer and other liver problems. This study has the purpose of investigating how these acids interact with cell membranes and their effects on them. We studied the effects of two bile acids, a cytotoxic (DCA) and other cyt...

The abnormal serum lipid pattern in patients with coronary arteriosclerosis.

Studies in experimental arteriosclerosis have indicated that the relative level of serum lipid phosphorus may be as significant a factor as the absolute level of serum cholesterol in the production of arterial lesions. For this reason, the serum lipid pattern of 82 patients with coronary arteriosclerosis has been compared with that of 112 healthy adults. An elevation of the serum cholesterol, s...
